Lynn LaPlante in her own words.
I love my role on the DuPage County Board! As Chair of the Community Development Committee, I am working with our community partners, municipalities and senior staff to shine a light on Affordable Housing and serving the most pressing needs of our community members. Truly, this is the work I was most excited to do as a board member, and it brings me great joy and a sense of purpose.
I wanted to help in any way possible with the vaccination effort in DuPage County, so I joined the HEART Task Force, where we work on building vaccine confidence and accessibility in our community. I recruited my conductor, Orbert Davis, and my sons’ Glenbard West Varsity Football Coach, Chad Hetlet, to make PSA videos encouraging vaccinations. That was unbelievably fun and rewarding using my connections to work closely with our DuPage County Health Department. These PSA’s have been viewed thousands of times already, check them out here: https://www.dupagehealth.org/596/Education-and-Outreach-Materials This is #ourshotdupage!
As a proud Union Member (Chicago Federation of Musicians 10-208) , I’m honored to serve as vice-chair of the Ad Hoc Collective Bargaining Committee. And I really enjoy sitting on the Environmental, Health and Human Services, Legislative, Strategic Planning, and Diversity and Inclusion Committees. I find the work on these committees invigorating, inspiring, and highly rewarding.
I am beyond thrilled with my brand new Fine Arts Initiative, which includes Chairing the Ad Hoc Fine Arts Committee. I created this committee in order to promote cultural enrichment for the residents of DuPage County by highlighting access to high quality artistic experiences. This Fine Arts Committee will help widen arts appreciation and engagement, enhance tourism, and promote the economic benefits having a vibrant cultural environment can provide.
We have partnered with important community organizations such as the DuPage County Fair Association, Choose DuPage, DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau, and DuPage Foundation in order to use the arts to drive COVID recovery and economic development. We are launching this new initiative by holding the Inaugural DuPage Community Arts Festival on our beautiful DuPage County Fairgrounds over Memorial Day Weekend 2022. Join us for a weekend filled with world class music of all genres, dance, visual art, theater, and more. All art forms will be represented at this festival, from top notch professional to school and children’s arts organizations as well, to emphasize the importance of arts education. We have formed public-private partnerships with local business sponsorships, in order to shine a light on all these amazing arts organizations.
