Congratulations County Board Finance Chair Liz Chaplin!

The DuPage Democrats would like to formally congratulate County Board Member Liz Chaplin on her committee election as Finance Chair of the DuPage County Board. In this term, Liz is also the County Board Chair Pro Tem and Environmental Committee – Vice Chair. She sits on the the Health and Human Services Committee, Judicial and Public Safety Committee, Legislative Committee, Public Works Committee and Transportation Committee.

As Chair of the Finance Committee, going forward, Liz believes that it is imperative that DuPage County has the necessary and reliable revenues needed to conduct county business not only today, but the future as well, rather than the makeshift practices of the past.

As the senior member of the Democratic Majority of the DuPage County Board, Liz has worked on a countless initiatives to build a better DuPage over the years.
In the Spring of 2019 working with the sheriff and SCARCE, Liz helped start the Children’s Library. Children waiting to visit a parent can pick a book, bring it in to read with their parent and take the book home. The relocation of Hopes Garden to the jail was a huge accomplishment. The garden provides vegetables and flowers that are donated to food pantries and women’s shelters. The garden also provided the incarcerated a chance to get outdoors and provides life skills and job opportunities.

Liz initiated the special call meeting to discuss how DuPage County would spend the 161 million dollars in CARES Funding.

Liz initiated $150,000 in CARES Act funding for a Household Hazardous Waste collection held last month at the county fairgrounds, 47,000 lbs of waste was collected during the 8 hour event.

Liz also initiated $37,950 in CARES Act funding to Poised for Success. Poised for Success provides women with appropriate attire for business interviews.

Thanks to the hard work of our candidates, PCs and volunteers, Democrats now hold the majority of the board for the first time since 1934. We look forward to seeing all the great work each of our members will do for our communities to make DuPage an even better county for all.
